What is Acne and How Can You Finally Get Rid of It?!

If you have acne, you may feel that acne is a "curse" or a "plague", and can't figure out why your best friend can wash with coconut oil(so bad for acne btw), and have beautiful skin, and you spend 100's of dollars on your skincare and still can't seem to get clear.

In this post I am going to talk about what acne actually is, why you have it,  and more importantly, how to get rid of it.

What is acne?

Acne is a disease.  It is not a "condition" or a "phase", or something you will" just grow out of."  There are people in their 80's with acne!

Now the details... Acne  is an inherited condition of the pore. Someone, somewhere in your family line had acne and you have inherited this condition.

A person with normal skin that is not prone to acne will typically shed 1 layer of dead skin a day.  An acne prone person will shed 5 layers of skin a day.  That's a big difference!  Five times more dead skin is building up in the pore.

The body simply cannot keep up with this slough and keep the pore clear.  The excess dead cells accumulate and get sticky inside the pore and begin to form a plug.  This plug or "microcomedone," is the precursor to acne.

Because of this sticky plug, any hormonal trigger that creates more oil, causes more oil to be trapped inside the pore.  This oily plug becomes food to P. Acnes bacteria and it begins to multiply.

This is an important thing to remember.  It's not the bacteria that is causing you to break out.  We all, even your clear skinned bff, have P .Acnes bacteria on our skin. The difference is the plug that was formed because of the excess pore shedding.

This is key to understanding why antibiotics don't work long term for acne.

So now, what I know you want to know.  Are you just doomed to have acne because you have inherited skin that likes to shed? No!!!

While there is no "cure" for acne, it can be managed.  It is possible to have beautiful clear skin, even if you have inherited acne.

How can you finally get rid of it?

The trick is to use just the right products in the right amount, to keep the pore from forming a plug. This keeps up with the excess shedding and "moves it out."

This can be tricky.

There are two different types of acne and there is no "one size fits all program."  It takes a qualified acne expert to be able to guide this process successfully.

If we use products that are too strong for you, your skin will become irritated and dry and most likely fight back with more oil and more breakouts.  If we use products that aren't strong enough for you, your skin will outsmart the products and will continue to breakout.

Much like Goldilocks would have chosen, we need your product lineup to be "just right" for your skin.  This perfect lineup will keep up with the slough, to keep the pore clear.

Have you ever used something that worked for a while and then stopped working?  How upsetting right?! That is because skin adapts to products over time.  We slowly increase product strength until the pore is clear.

How long does it take? About 3-4 months, typically.  Sometimes a little more.  This is because, the pore holds about 90 days' worth of past debris.

Does this all sound tricky?

It can be. But the good news is that I can help.  I have been helping people on this road to clarity for 11 years now.  I absolutely love watching people regain their confidence and move on with their life!  Acne can take over your life and make you feel helpless.
