Maskne: How to treat and prevent it!

Maskne: How to Treat and Prevent it!
Maskne, the new acne with a cool name, not a cool look though!  Who would have guessed that 2020 would bring a surge in this previously unheard of acne?!  The technical term for Maskne is Acne Mechanica which is defined as acne caused by friction, heat, and pressure on the skin.  With the increased heat and lack of air flow, sweat builds up and can cause an increase in bacteria and irritation.  Not to worry, I have put together a few products to aid in keeping your maskne or mask irritation from becoming a problem.
Irritation Caused by Mask Wearing
There are two types of skin issues I am seeing related to mask wearing.  The first is irritation that includes rough patches.  If this is what you are dealing with follow these steps:
  1. Cleanse with Ultra Hydrating Cleanser. 
  1. Gently apply Ultra Peptide Moisturizer.
  1. Apply Your favorite SPF.
*skip applying makeup to the lower half of your face. 
  1.  Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or Vaseline to the area of your face that the masks covers.
The second type of Maskne does not have irritation involved, only breakouts.  For this type apply a thin layer of Sulfur Spot Treatment to the breakouts that come up.  
Prevention of Maskne is key.
Tips to keep Maskne from ever forming:
   1 .Keep a bag of cotton rounds saturated in Calming Toner.  Wipe face a few times throughout the day to keep skin clean and calm.
  1. Keep skin moisturized with Ultra Peptide Moisturizer.  This is a very anti inflammatory moisturizer that will keep skin moist, and the copper peptides fight aging and inflammation.
  1.  Wash your mask often!  I recommend using a silk lined mask to avoid friction.
  1.  Spritz mask between wears with Alcohol.
  1.  Avoid wearing makeup under your mask.  Focus on eye makeup baby and leave the bottom half of your face makeup free.
These are definitely interesting times and dealing with Maskne can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to.  With a little bit of planning and the right products you can prevent and treat Maskne.
